Hillingdon

I am very happy that I was finally able to present and finish my project on Hillingdon Borough. Hillingdon is a small county outside of London and has risen in popularity in the last 20 years or so. I was interested in this community because my uncle worked there as an urban developer, and said the town was a very beautiful place to live. It is also where the world famous Heath row Airport is located at.

Hillingdon pricing has gone up at the same time its population has risen dramatically. This has created an overpopulated area with little places to live permanently. This problem has been rectified to an extent by the London council, although many still have a hard time to find a permanent place to live.

past presentations

After watching my class mates present there projects on their own problems in the environment, I am fully concerned by the state of the world. There were issues in the Atlantic ocean with overfishing, pollution in major cities like New York, and water contatnimation in west Virgina to name a few problems. I am disheartened by the lack of support and care these areas are shown by our government and how the problems have not been looked at fully.

The environment is steadily getting worse and worse and time progresses, and we cannot just sit here and look on and continue are daily lives. I am worried for the state of the planet as our population gets bigger, and technology improves.

ranting and raving

I am annoyed at the moment because my advisor has yet to clear me for registration for classes which I can start tomorrow. I want to get the classes I want so I can fulfill my requirements for my major. So then I can start focusing on the classes I want for my major. I hate the fact that this women is not responding to my emails, and is not even her office half the time. I want to succeed in college, and its people like her that are stopping me from my goals.

180 degree south

After viewing the movie, I personally am interested in what they were able to do and how the trip changed them for the better. My dad and I over the last couple of years enjoy climbing and hiking, we have climbed the highest peaks in Ireland and we have climbed around the blue ridge mountains. Our own personal goal two summers from now is to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa.  In this movie I was impressed with the climbing they were able to accomplish, as it only reaffirmed what I wanted to do.

Another aspect of the movie that really impressed me was how they managed to live the way they did. So far away from civilization in nature, was impressive to me. Their ability to rely almost entirely on the land around them was fascinating. I hope the world can take notice from the preservation they set up in Chile as we are dangerously facing a crisis in the near future.

Intro Paragraph

In response to the growing concern of a rise in energy and talks of a "crisis" we humainity have made a stand. We can no longer take a back seat to the arguements and debates, we must take a stand! Its time we finally take a look what will benefit us and really debate what is benefitial for us. We must look at past and present events and scientific facts and knowledge to make our decisions.

Denial and more Denial

When I look back on my own life, I honestly consider that I deny things are actually happening and I also deny my self a lot of things that I could enjoy. I admit I am work aholic and I spend most of my nights working and studying while my friends are out having fun at college. I know I stress out over the little things and sometimes that effects my judgement to the point that I only focus on one certain thing.

I also try to escape the problems around me by trying to hide away from them and try to igonore them completly. I am just to afraid most of the time to see the truth in front of me, and this is why I prob never take risks.

Chief Seattle and Luther Standing Bear

In Chief Seattles Speech he discusses how the European "white people" are different from their "red brothers" in different ways. He argues that how can both sets of people can exist when the Europeans constantly spread and destroy the culture and lives of the Native Americans. At the end of his speech he states he will ponder the Europeans offer of living together if they decide to not harm the sacred land and burial grounds. In Luther Standing Bear, the Chief is describing how it is important to be proud and respectful of your ancestry, and how he would raise his own children to become Lakota Indians. He then goes on to say that unlike the current American, the lakota respect and cherish and nature and all its inhabitants. The chiefs parting words are somber, in which he states if the way of people is forever gone, then the Indian is trulyy dead.

There is controversy over the "Chief Seattle Speech" , as in which people have debated whether or not he actually even presented this speech. American translators supposedly have recorded the speech in books and diaries. Many people have different dates for when the speech actually occurred, and even Dr. Henry Smith, who was one of the people to have claimed to recorded the speech, said he only wasn't able to get the whole speech down. Which draws the question did he make it up? Many other people have claimed to have written down the speech, and each although smiler has different words or phrases in each. This is the main issue with the controversy, who can really offer the truth to the debate?

Chief Seatlle Speech Real or not real?

After reding the speech supposdly made by Chief Seatlle, I am conflicted. I am impressed by the ideas and messages of the speech but I find it hard to believe that an American could correctly translate such an elaborate speech while the "Chief" was supposdly talking at the same time. I dont think Americans could not be that intuitive of one of the languages that the different indian tribes could speak.

`Different kinds of energy

To continue my blog posts on alternative energy, I am going to list and explain the different types of energy that are available for us to use. There is solar energy, which is the energy we can use from the sun. Then there is wind energy which is the energy we can harness from windmills and use. The energy that is easiest for us to gain and use is hydro energy which we can gain from dams and using controlled settings. One form of alternative energy is nuclear energy which is harnessed from nucelar energy. This however is the most debated form of energy due its high risks, such as nuclear waste and the possible use of stealing the waste for atomic wepons.

first steps

Now more and more scientists have stated that eventually we will have to find new and improved ways of getting energy and remaining as functional as we are today. Although we are nowhere near where we need to be in the future already companies are taking some important first steps. We are already creating fuel efficient cars and testing electric cars. Scientists are experimenting with solar, water, and nuclear energy today. However we should begin to develop more and more of this energies. We must further develop the unlimited supplies we have, before we are left to face the inevetiable fossil fuel less future, with no new energy to help continue are energy needs.

carbon dioxide really?

As i sit here studying for my earth science test on thursday, i have read carbon dioxide from fossil fuels harms the atmosphere. What I cannot understand how people continue to argue that is not harmful and that scientists are overreacting and spreading lies. It cannot be a lie if people continue to prove its validity. It infuriates me when people call research into new energy products a waste of time and money, its your future be smart about it.
